The first topic of the first term, Henri Matisse project has come to an end, and a new art class has begun with a theme related to feelings and emotions.
This week, the year1 students discussed how colours can evoke different feelings and emotions.
First, they talked about the colours that come to mind when they feel extremely happy. The children shared their thoughts and smiled as they mentioned the colours that make them happy. They also had a discussion about the colours associated with different emotions, such as anger or sadness, in various situations.
They had a chance to look at the works of the German artist Gerhard Richter and tried to guess how these artworks were created by looking at the colours.
Mika gave very accurate answers, which surprised everyone. Following the artist’s creative process, they experimented with various colours of paint on a large canvas by dripping and squeezing.
They even tried splattering and pushing the paint around, and the children had a lot of fun during this time.
