Year 5-6 students are diving into the theme of Ancient Egyptian and Greek art. This week marked our first lesson on the topic, where the kids explored the distinct styles of Egyptian and Greek art.
We examined Egyptian wall art closely and discussed its unique characteristics. The ancient Egyptians followed specific rules to depict the human body as completely as possible, believing that in the afterlife, a person would be reborn just as they were shown in the artwork. To ensure nothing was missing, they drew heads in profile to show the nose clearly, chests facing forward so both arms were visible, and legs from the side so both feet could be seen.
The students found these facts fascinating! To bring the lesson to life, they created their own Pharaoh’s Headdresses. We’ll continue with more exciting art activities related to this theme in the coming weeks.
