This week in art class, the Year 5–6 students continued their exploration of Kim Whanki’s beautiful artwork.
Building on last week’s lesson, the children added colour and detail to their own interpretations of Kim Whanki’s paintings, inspired by the masterpiece they had chosen. They carefully painted the remaining parts, thoughtfully using soft colours, dots, and lines just like the artist did.
In addition to finishing their paintings, we began a new activity inspired by Kim Whanki’s famous Moon Jar series. Using a Korean traditional paper, the students cut and arranged pieces to create their own white moon jars. This collage project allowed them to express the gentle shapes and peaceful feeling of the moon jar in a tactile, hands-on way.
The class showed wonderful focus and creativity throughout the process. It was a lovely opportunity for them to connect with Korean art through both painting and collage techniques.
