Y1-2 Art Class Update T3-W4

Exploring Lee Jung-seob’s Letter Art

This week, the students continued their exploration of Lee Jung-seob’s powerful and emotional art by bringing their ox sketches to life with paint. Each child developed their own unique style, using expressive brushwork and colour to reflect their personal interpretation of the ox—a symbol of strength, love, and resilience.

Following that, we delved into another deeply meaningful part of Lee Jung-seob’s work—his letter art (편지화). We looked closely at the heartfelt letters he wrote to his wife, Masako, many of which included touching drawings. The children made thoughtful guesses about what the letters might have said and discussed the feelings they saw in the illustrations.

Inspired by this, the students were given two creative options:

  1. To create a letter artwork for their own family, combining writing and drawing.
  2. To write and illustrate a letter to the artist Lee Jung-seob himself, sharing their thoughts and feelings.

Each student poured their heart into their work, creating beautiful, expressive pieces that truly reflect their emotions and creativity.

These moving 편지화 artworks will be on display at our upcoming school art exhibition in June.

Great job, everyone!
