This week, the Year 7-9 students created a Firefly Apartment using lights, a box, and sugar papers.
They carefully covered their boxes with sugar papers, poked holes into them, and inserted a flashlight inside. As they observed, they noticed how the light beams extended outward in straight lines, demonstrating how light travels.
This hands-on project helped them explore the basic principles of light and shadows in a fun and creative way.
This week, Yeseo completed a beautiful flower artwork using the silk-screening technique. She enhanced her piece by decorating the background with various insect-shaped stamps, creating a lively and vibrant composition.
Yeseo was deeply fascinated by the Year 7-9 students’ artworks displayed in the art room. Inspired by them, she created her own drawing on cellophane and used a flashlight to observe her work, having a fun and engaging experience.
Book art is a creative way of transforming books into unique works of art. Instead of simply reading them, we use books to create fun and exciting crafts or designs over several weeks.
One activity focused on designing personalized book covers while learning and labeling the key parts of a book, such as the title, author, illustrator, spine, front cover, back cover, and pages. By the end of the lesson, the kids could confidently name all the parts of a book. Well done! I am so proud of their hard work and progress.
The Year 3-4 students created posters inspired by Gustav Klimt.
I handed out one of Klimt’s masterpieces to each group, and they worked together to come up with questions about the artwork. After brainstorming the questions, they collaborated to find the answers, which required strong teamwork and cooperation.
The Year 3-4 kids worked incredibly hard and demonstrated impressive dedication throughout the activity.
The Year 5-6 students learned about Andy Warhol, a prominent figure in Pop Art.
We discussed the meaning of Pop Art and explored key moments from Warhol’s life. The students also examined several of his famous artworks.
The first part of the activity involved answering five research questions I had prepared. They also selected one of their favorite art pieces by Andy Warhol and wrote about why they chose it.
In the second session, the students selected a famous person and started to create artwork in the style of Andy Warhol, replicating his iconic techniques and vibrant approach.
This week, we explored the concept of light and discussed five key behaviors: traveling in a straight line, scattering, bending, mixing, and reflecting. To bring this topic to life, we created colourful light stands using cellophane.
First, we attached the cellophane and wrapped the edges with black tape.
Then, we propped the stands up using clips. By shining light through them, we observed how the light interacted and created stunning colours. The activity was both fun and fascinating, as we watched the beautiful colours emerge and learned more about how light behaves.
This week, we used cellophane to create superhero-themed art for Maddie. When I asked what she would do if she had superhero powers, Maddie said she would love to fly back to Houston quickly to see her friends. 😊
In celebration of Lunar New Year, we also made colourful rice cake skewers using craft sticks, which turned out beautifully. During the second session, Yeseo rejoined the class, making the art lesson even more enjoyable. Together, we used the stencil technique to print adorable animal shapes onto bags.
The kids had such a wonderful time during this activity.

This week, we had a lesson using the scratch art technique to create traditional Korean folk paintings. After completing the scratch art, the paintings were cut into pieces and reassembled into new compositions. The kids worked so well, and a variety of amazing and unique artistic creations emerged.
This week, the Year 3-4 students completed their beautiful Korean folk art projects and began exploring an exciting new topic: Gustav Klimt. The children learned about who Gustav Klimt was and the key symbols that define his art style. We also explored some of his masterpieces and discussed the stories and inspiration behind his iconic paintings. The students then divided into groups and created their own questions about the artworks, encouraging curiosity and deeper engagement. It was a fantastic start to learning about Gustav Klimt and his remarkable contributions to the art world!
This week, the Year 5-6 students proudly completed their lantern project, and they were absolutely delighted with the outcome! They poured their creativity and hard work into designing and crafting their lanterns, and the results were nothing short of amazing. This project was a fantastic way to showcase their artistic talents and left everyone feeling proud of their efforts. Great job!
