This week, our Year 7-9 students explored the fascinating world of marbling art.

They learned how paint can float on water due to something called “surface tension,” which allows the colours to stay on top of the water’s surface. Using this knowledge, students experimented by dropping paint into water, creating stunning and unique patterns. They then transferred these patterns onto paper, producing beautiful, original prints. It was an exciting and creative way for them to understand how water works while making their own artistic designs.

This week, Yeseo was absent, so it was just Maddison and me for the art lesson.

Although we missed Yeseo a lot, Maddison and I had a fun and creative time exploring a variety of art materials, such as chalk pastels, watercolour paints, and playdough.

We started by creating a beautiful autumn tree with colourful leaves, capturing the essence of the season. After that, we dove into Mondrian’s style of art, using black tape to form horizontal and vertical lines on the paper. Maddison then had the freedom to paint whatever she liked within the spaces, and the results were vibrant and full of her own artistic touch!

The Year 1-2 kids are learning all about the five senses—sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch—through a fun and creative Mr. Potato Head art project. We spent time discussing how we use each of our senses in daily life, and then the students drew their own version of Mr. Potato Head. This activity helped them reinforce the meaning of the five senses while being imaginative and artistic!

This week, we built on what we’ve learned about our bodies and internal organs, focusing on how our bodies move and stay healthy. We expressed these ideas through art, exploring how movement can be represented creatively.

By creating action figures, we gained a deeper understanding of how our muscles, bones, and organs work together to keep us active and healthy. This group activity also helped us learn the importance of teamwork and cooperation, as we worked together to bring our creative ideas to life.

The Year 5-6 kids have completed their posters about endangered animals, each paired with a meaningful slogan. Their posters beautifully reflect their hard work and dedication, and I’m so proud of their efforts. We’ve now started a new project where the students are creating masks inspired by endangered animals, allowing them to continue exploring this important theme through art.

This week, we created beautiful leaf drawings using two different techniques to show tone and colour.

One half of each leaf was painted with watercolours, where we explored light and dark shades of each color. On the other half, we used our pencils to shade, demonstrating how we can create tones with just a pencil.

By the end, our leaves had two distinct halves, each showcasing a different style but both filled with lovely tones and colours. Aren’t our leaves beautiful?

In our recent lessons with Year 3-4 students, we explored how the human body works, focusing on the different internal organs and their functions. After learning about which organs belong to specific body systems, the students drew the major internal organs, deepening their understanding of the body’s structure and how it operates.

In our recent lessons, we explored fun carving techniques such as intaglio (carving in) and relief (leaving raised letters) while working on erasers. Some students successfully completed their name carvings and tested them out as stamps. After mastering the basics, we moved on to designing and carving simple characters. This process helped us improve our focus, practice using cutting tools carefully, and develop our motor skills in an engaging and hands-on way.

The FS1-2 kids created beautiful autumn trees using cutting, colouring, sticking, and painting skills.

We started by learning about what autumn trees look like and discussed their colours.

We also made some colourful bubble paints and blew them out.

This project helped improve our motor skills.

This week, the kids crafted beautiful portraits on foam board. They learned how Picasso created his portrait art and then designed their own, focusing on colourful eyebrows, eyes, noses, and lips in Picasso’s style. The completed works are stunning and look so artistic!
