Africa has many countries and lots of different cultures.

Some cultures use masks in their special ceremonies and celebrations, but not all cultures do. In some African groups, people have used masks for thousands of years.

Masks can cover the face or head and come in many styles, shapes, and designs. Some masks might look fierce, funny, or be made for important people.

African masks are often geometrical and symmetrical.

We looked at masks for inspiration for creating our own masks and started to design.

We’ve been learning and investigating various skills that artists have tried. This week, we’re continuing to explore Seurat’s pointillism. We’ve been using original colors and adding them to create different tones that look natural. It takes a lot of effort to place each dot on our painting. Well done, everyone, for your patience and hard work.
