The art classroom was buzzing with excitement as the toy cars, made by the year 1-2 students, were finally finished. When the wheels were added, the cars looked just like real ones! The year 3-4 kids delved into the intricate world of insects, learning about their body parts. The Year7-9 students explored the characteristics of Gothic architecture, a fascinating genre of art, and learned about its significance. To add depth to their sketches, they played with varying tones, enhancing their understanding of architectural design.

We created a fun craft this week. We coloured in cars and roads, drew backgrounds, and had a session to make moving cars. Although it’s not finished yet, next week we plan to weave threads, make handles, and create the shape of cars moving, having an enjoyable playtime.

    Y1-2 Art Class Update – T2W9

As part of our IPC topic on toys, the Year1-2 children have been busy creating toy cars using cardboard boxes and toy wheels. Before diving into the creative process, we initiated a discussion on the various types of cars we encounter. Following this discussion, we selected colour paper that matched and symbolized those types of cars. Each child carefully crafted their toy car, paying close attention to detail. Next week we will add on wheels.

Contour drawing, a variation of outline drawing, involves the artist closely examining the contours of an object and transferring them onto paper with one continuous line, all without looking down except when necessary to place internal features like an eye. This week, the Year 5 and 6 kids created beautiful contour drawings using their interesting objects. Their artistic depictions through lines are truly impressive, and I couldn’t be prouder of their work.

    FS1-2 Art Class Update – T2W8

The FS1-2 children got creative as they delved into 2D shapes while crafting transportation-themed projects this week. They eagerly let their imaginations run wild, using various shapes to design different modes of transport, which encouraged both creativity and critical thinking. With hands-on experience, the kids not only learned about geometric shapes like squares, rectangles, circles, triangles, and semicircles, but also applied this knowledge while assembling their unique transportation crafts. Through this interactive lesson, the FS1-2 children not only enjoyed themselves creating their transportation crafts, but also deepened their understanding of 2D shapes in a fun and engaging manner.

This week marked the conclusion of our parody art class. Our take on famous artworks included Van Gogh donning a striking mustache and sunglasses, while Munch’s eerie scream was replaced with whimsical tales straight from the children’s imaginations. Moreover, in Klimt’s “The Kiss,” witty sentences from the kids were cleverly incorporated using speech bubbles. The resulting artworks beautifully captured the children’s humor and creativity. Alongside this, we also crafted frog-shaped toys. Looking ahead, we plan to incorporate these toys into art activities centered around the theme of “toys” in our IPC class next week, promising even more fun and creativity. Stay tuned for more exciting art adventures!
