  • Y3-4 Art Class Update – T2W4

This week, the year3-4 students crafted vibrant collage art using sheet music and old newspapers.

They began by drawing flowers on the sheet music and newspapers to express their feelings. After colouring the images with markers and coloured pencils, they skillfully cut them out and arranged them thoughtfully on the canvas. To enhance the depth, they incorporated thin paper to create layers, giving their artwork a three-dimensional feel. The outcome was a delightful collection of artworks, each uniquely capturing the personal sensibilities of the students.

This week, the year5-9 student, who did not attend the ski camp, had classes together. They continued practicing drawing eyes, noses, and mouths for portrait art, and also enjoyed free time exploring various materials, including solving art puzzle challenges. It was great to see their observation skills and pencil shading techniques improving.

We created ‘Sun and Moon’ using warm colours and cool colours cellophane. To start the lesson, we reviewed and identified warm and cool colours through discussion. Then, we matched the colours for the sun and moon, sticking pieces of cellophane where they belong. In another session, we crafted a cute baby shark using cool-coloured paper.

This week, we learned about a very special artist named Paul Cézanne. He loved painting all kinds of things, but one of his favourites was apples! Our Year 1-2 kids created a colourful apple drawing using oil pastels on sandpaper, inspired by Paul Cézanne’s apples.

The year 3-4 students showcased their creativity by crafting beautiful flowers through collage techniques. Initially, they freely painted on paper and then skillfully tore the painted paper into various shapes, assembling them to form exquisite 3D flowers. This engaging lesson not only enhanced their motor skills but also provided valuable insights into the artistic outcomes of spontaneous actions.

    Y5-6 Art Class Update – T2W3

Making a self-portrait is a great way to share how we feel. Right now, we’re exploring the theme “express yourself,” and our second project is all about getting better at drawing our own faces. To get ready for this, we’ve been practicing by looking at real photos and learning how to draw eyes, noses, and mouths accurately.

This week, we concentrated on using pencils to draw eyes and understanding how different tones can be created.

We’ve been working hard on our timeline poster, getting to know each part we’ve gathered. After we finish it, we’ll share and present what we’ve put together.

    FS-2 Art Class Update – T2W2

This week, FS2 kids learned about warm and cool colors. We also explored primary and secondary colors and learned how to mix them. The children created their own color wheel, experimenting with mixed colors. Additionally, they applied their knowledge by creating artworks depicting the sun and sea using warm and cool colors. Through these lessons, our FS kids successfully recognized and differentiated between warm and cool colors.

This term, Year 1-2 students are exploring the concept of food through art to encourage creativity and develop fine motor skills. We began by discussing the theme of the art lesson – food. I asked the children about their favorite foods and what they like to eat.

Next, I showed them various pictures of different types of food and briefly discussed each one. The children then created fruit portrait art in the style of Italian artists. In another art session, we focused on drawing a cross-section of fruits. We observed both the outside shape and inside shape, drawing with keen observational skills.

All the children did fantastic work!

Y3-4 students are exploring environmental art this term. We’ve grasped the concept of environmental art and its connection to nature. In our discussions, we explored why the environment is crucial to us and how it impacts our lives. We shared images that come to mind when thinking about nature, such as mountains, flowers, the sea, and the sky.

Following our conversation, we delved into drawing flower patterns up close and colored them using pastels. It was a lot of fun! We learned about applying tones to our drawings to make them resemble real flowers. Looking forward to next week when we’ll explore different art skills and materials.
