We have been learning about holidays and celebrations around the world. As our school is an
international school, we are exploring various countries’ cultures and holidays.
Last week, we learned about Diwali from India, and this week, we started to learn about Ramadan.
Ramadan is a month in the Islamic calendar, and it is a time when Muslims around the world fast.
Fasting means not eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset. They do this to learn about being strong and to think about how they can help others. Ramadan feels like a magical adventure with the moon and stars.
People who celebrate Ramadan look at the moon to know when it’s time to start and finish their special fasting. When the stars come out, they can have a yummy meal with their families and friends.
Ramadan is not just about not eating; it’s also a time for sharing and caring!
After learning about this culture, we started to create symbols of stars and moon patterns that represent Ramadan. Our Year 5-6 students have created beautiful and detailed patterns.
Their concentration on drawing patterns was truly amazing.
Well done, everyone! After this week, we will move on to the topic of Christmas!
