  • Y5-6 Art Class Update – T1W10

This week, in our final class with the ‘People in Action’ theme, we explored the topic of ballerinas. After looking at the works of famous artists who frequently painted ballerinas, like Edgar Degas, we examined the movements of ballerinas. We then used ballerina templates to express our own desired poses.

We also delved into the world of ballerina costumes, allowing the children to decorate tutus, toe shoes, and hairpins in their preferred style. Everyone had so much fun. Starting next week, our art class will focus on the ‘Holidays and Celebrations’ theme.

Pop art is an art form that, in simple terms, finds its subject matter in easily accessible, everyday, and popular things. Pop art artists used not only mass-produced products but also famous individuals like Marilyn Monroe or Michael Jackson, and even characters from cartoons as subjects, expressing them in their own unique ways. By incorporating familiar subjects into their artwork, they captured people’s attention and made art feel more approachable to the general public.

After understanding the meaning of pop art through a presentation, we explored the life and works of the prominent pop art artist, Andy Warhol. Following this, each participant researched and summarized answers to a set of questions about Andy Warhol’s life and works. Additionally, they found images representing Andy Warhol’s artistic style. In the next session, we plan to have the children use the images they found to create their own pop art in their unique styles.

    FS1-2 Art Class Update – T1W8

This week, our FS2 friends got into the Halloween spirit by making ghost decorations using balloons.

We drew spooky eyes, noses, and mouths on the balloons, and we cut tissue paper to glue on for each ghost’s unique personality. We even added spider webs and spiders to make them more festive.

In addition to the ghost balloons, we explored our artistic side by dropping paint onto paper, creating patterns that resembled monsters with horns. The monsters they created turned out to be incredibly cute, just like our friends.

Our friends’ artistic creations are as adorable as they are. We’re all looking forward to the exciting Halloween art lessons planned for next week.

Have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see you in class next week!

The first topic of the first term, Henri Matisse project has come to an end, and a new art class has begun with a theme related to feelings and emotions.

This week, the year1 students discussed how colours can evoke different feelings and emotions.

First, they talked about the colours that come to mind when they feel extremely happy. The children shared their thoughts and smiled as they mentioned the colours that make them happy. They also had a discussion about the colours associated with different emotions, such as anger or sadness, in various situations.

They had a chance to look at the works of the German artist Gerhard Richter and tried to guess how these artworks were created by looking at the colours.

Mika gave very accurate answers, which surprised everyone. Following the artist’s creative process, they experimented with various colours of paint on a large canvas by dripping and squeezing.

They even tried splattering and pushing the paint around, and the children had a lot of fun during this time.

This week, we completed a painting of parrots using wate colour techniques. Various colourful parrots were created, and while adjusting the watercolour’s brightness and contrast wasn’t easy, it was an enjoyable time.

Halloween is one of the most fun festivals. Halloween is approaching, and our HFS students had an enjoyable Halloween art class. First, they learned about the origins of Halloween, discussed what people do on Halloween, and talked about their favorite characters. They also discussed what costumes to wear for Halloween, making it a very exciting discussion.

We are planning to create Halloween posters using our own ideas and imaginations. This time, kids provided various options for the children to freely choose. Some kids drew cute images, while others went for a scarier feel. This art class was so much fun that it felt like a playtime for everyone. I also had a great time with them. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of artwork will be completed next week. Have a wonderful weekend, and see you next week for more exciting art lessons!
