This week, we learned about the famous Korean artist Lee Jung-seob.We talked about his life, his love for his family, and the special way he showed his feelings through art. We looked at his drawings of children and cows, and learned how he used pictures and letters to express his deep love and longing for his family. We also learned that during hard times, he didn’t have money to buy paper—so he drew on silver foil from things like cigarette packs or chocolate wrappers! Inspired by this, we started making our own drawings on tin foil, just like he did.It Y1-2 Art Class Update T3-W2

This week in art class, we learned about the famous Korean artist Kim Whanki. The students explored how he used soft colours, dots, and lines to express the feelings of the sky, the moon, stars, and nature in his paintings. We focused on one of his most well-known works—the Moon Jar. The children observed how Kim Whanki’s Moon Jar paintings feel calm, peaceful, and full of emotion. They were encouraged to look closely and reflect on what they saw. Together, we discussed thoughtful questions such as:• “How does this jar make you feel?”• “What kind of emotions do the background Y5-6 Art Class Update T3-W2

This week, the Year7-9 students continued their exciting 3D Guitar Art project. After designing and cutting the body shapes last week, they moved on to colouring and decorating their guitars using their own creative ideas. Each guitar was filled with personality—some featured bold patterns, while others had fun colours and detailed designs. The students also began building the 3D structure of the guitar body using foam board, carefully layering and shaping the parts to give their artwork dimension. They showed great focus and enthusiasm during the process! Next week, we will continue by creating the neck and tuners of the Y7-9 Art Class Update T3-W2

This week, we began our exciting 3D Guitar Art project. The year7-9 students started by designing the body shapes of their guitars on foam board, using their creativity to explore different styles and ideas. After finalizing their designs, they carefully cut out the guitar shapes using an electric cutter. The students learned how to use the tool safely and were very excited to try it themselves! Next week, we will move on to the next step: creating depth by adding foam board layers. The students will make a space (gap) in their guitar designs and fill them to build up Y7-9 Art Class Update T3-W1

This week, Yeseo worked on a project with the theme “Rainy Day,” where she had the opportunity to draw and express her ideas on an umbrella design. Yeseo is an incredibly creative student who can confidently bring her thoughts to life without relying on any reference images. Her artwork was beautifully filled with animals she loves. In our next session, we’ll move on to coloring using permanent marker pens and acrylic paints. I’m excited to see how her work develops!

This week, we had a fun and creative time designing traditional Korean gomusin (rubber shoes) made out of paper. As part of our exploration of traditional Korean art, this lesson was designed to help students better understand and appreciate the culture of our host country, Korea. We began by talking about what gomusin are and when people used to wear them. Then, the students got to work decorating their own paper gomusin, using beautiful patterns made with traditional Korean paper, hanji. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with Korean heritage through art.

The year5-6 students began exploring and expressing traditional Korean art through collage techniques using hanji (traditional Korean paper). They learned about five symbolic plants often found in Korean art — plum blossom (maehwa), orchid (nan), chrysanthemum (gukhwa), bamboo (juk), and lotus (yeonkkot) — and began creating artworks inspired by these elements. The Year 5–6 students worked in groups to design beautiful plum blossom pieces. They stayed focused and thoughtfully created unique flower patterns in their own styles. To form the tree trunks, they carefully tore pieces of hanji, which added a natural and textured look to their work. I’m so Y5-6 Art Class Update T3-W1

This week, Yeseo completed The Very Hungry Caterpillar storyboard art project. She illustrated the caterpillar’s journey from an egg to a butterfly, focusing on story sequencing. Using drawings and various materials, she brought each scene to life. Yeseo put great effort into shaping and colouring foil to create beautiful, shiny butterfly wings. She did an amazing job, and her finished storyboards look fantastic. Her work will be proudly displayed in our art show!
