This week, the year 7-9 students had a fun and exciting lesson where they combined traditional drawing with digital animation using the Animated Drawing Tool. They used their creativity and AI technology to bring their hand-drawn characters to life!

First, students took pictures of their drawings using a laptop and uploaded them to the Animated Drawing Tool. The AI helped by detecting the movement points on their characters, making it easy to animate them.

After uploading, students tried different movements like walking, jumping, waving, and dancing. They learned how changing the movement points made their characters move more smoothly. Some students even added backgrounds and created small stories with their animations!

It was amazing to see how much students enjoyed experimenting with animation. This lesson helped them learn both artistic and digital skills, and I was very happy to see their excitement and creativity throughout the class!

Yeseo created a vibrant underwater scene by folding origami sea animals, gluing them onto paper, and illustrating the ocean world. We watched a short video to observe and discuss the appearance and environment of various sea creatures, sparking curiosity and conversation. Yeseo had a great time singing Baby Shark and enthusiastically drawing her own baby sharks. Next time, we’ll dive into an art lesson connected to the IEYC class topic—looking forward to another exciting session!

The Year 1-2 students had a wonderful time crafting their own mini-books using A4 paper.

They carefully folded and cut the pages, designed unique covers, and illustrated the growth process of a sunflower while writing about each stage. It was a delightful and rewarding experience, and they all took great pride in their work.

Next week, we will continue our storytelling journey by creating another storybook. This time, the students will have the freedom to come up with their own titles, stories, and illustrations, allowing their creativity to shine even more.

This week, instead of group activities, students had the opportunity to explore their creativity individually. Having already learned about Gustav Klimt’s life and artistic style, they closely examined The Tree of Life and discussed the intricate shapes of its branches. Through these discussions, they gained a deeper understanding of the symbolic meaning behind Klimt’s swirling designs.

Using crayons, markers, beads, and sequins, they beautifully decorated their own interpretations of The Tree of Life, resulting in stunning and expressive artworks. At the end, they also had the chance to use sparkling glitter, which, while leaving the art room in a bit of a glittery mess, brought so much joy and laughter to the students. They showed great teamwork by cleaning up together, making it a fun and rewarding experience for everyone.

In our pop art lesson, we explored the works of American artist Roy Lichtenstein. Students learned about the defining features of his art, including his iconic Mickey Mouse illustrations, comic book-style lettering, and, most importantly, the use of Ben-Day dots. After analyzing 40 selected artworks, each student chose the piece that resonated most with them. They then recreated or adapted the artwork, experimenting with Lichtenstein’s techniques. Some chose to faithfully replicate the originals, while others added their own creative twists, producing a diverse and dynamic collection of pieces. I was incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and creativity throughout the lesson.

The Year 7-9 students explored light reflection using mirror paper, boxes, and transparent sheets. Each student constructed their own setup to observe how light, colours, and transparency interact, creating fascinating patterns and visual effects. This hands-on exploration allowed them to discover the intriguing ways light behaves in different materials, making for a captivating and immersive lesson.

This week, our topic was origami, a fantastic activity for young children to enhance their motor skills.

Yeseo learned how to fold a shark and a fish using origami. Before starting, we watched a short video about underwater life, exploring the different sea animals that live in the ocean. After folding the shark, we glued it onto paper and sketched additional sea creatures to complete the scene.

We also had fun creating a Batman mask.

Next week, we will continue and complete our sea animal artwork, adding more creative details.

It was a fun and exciting learning experience!

This week, the Year 1-2 students designed abstract landscapes featuring mountains and trees as part of a book cover project. They explored textures, patterns, and different shades of green to make their artwork visually engaging and unique.

    What We Learned:

Step 1: Sketching the Mountains and Trees

    • We used simple shapes like triangles for mountains and various forms for trees (rectangles, rounded shapes, or irregular designs).
    • By overlapping mountains, we created a sense of depth in our drawings.

Step 2: Making the Mountains Look Layered

    • We learned that big mountains in the front appear closer, while small mountains in the back look farther away.
    • Using different shapes and curved lines made our landscapes more dynamic and realistic.

    Step 3: Colouring (Optional)

    • If desired, we used watercolors to create a gradient background (such as a light sky or different shades of green).
    • We blended different greens within the trees and mountains to add depth.
    • Highlights were added by leaving some white spaces within patterns.

    Step 4: Final Details

    • Once the patterns and colors were complete, we outlined the shapes with a fine black pen or marker for definition.
    • To bring the scene to life, we added small background details like birds, houses, or grass, inspired by reference images.

The kids had a fantastic time experimenting with patterns and textures, making each book cover design.

The Year 3-4 students successfully completed an outstanding group project. Each group selected a painting by Gustav Klimt, explored it with curiosity, and asked thoughtful questions. They then recreated Klimt’s artwork in their own way, incorporating their unique artistic sensibilities.

To complete the project, each group sketched their chosen painting and divided it into four sections.

Each member coloured one section, and then they reassembled the pieces like a puzzle to form a complete artwork. Through this collaborative art project, the students learned how to interact, communicate, and solve problems together.

Every group produced excellent results, and as a final touch, they decorated their work with sequins to enhance the dazzling effect characteristic of Klimt’s style.

We have successfully completed our Andy Warhol-inspired pop art portrait project!

Inspired by Warhol’s pop art style, we created multiple versions of our chosen images, using bold colours and a modern, vibrant aesthetic.

The students explored the essence of pop art by experimenting with repetition and colour variation, just as Warhol did in his iconic works.

Next, we will learn about Roy Lichtenstein’s pop art, diving into his unique comic book-inspired style and bold use of dots and lines.
