Mr Dunn - 2025/26

  • Mr Dunn’s Class Update T1 W1

To start with, a quick reminder that there is a Class Orientation Meeting next Wednesday at 1:45 – 2:30 pm. Also, for most homework set in English and IMYC, I am happy for students to use their home laptops to complete tasks. Deadlines for homework will vary depending on the task.

The Year 7, 8, and 9 class have had a fantastic start to the year. We spent part of this first week getting used to new class routines and expectations, including moving to different classrooms for Maths and meeting different teachers.

We also dedicated time to getting to know one another and building teamwork skills. The children took part in a fun STEM challenge, competing to design and build the best catapult. They also created “All About Me” posters, which are now on display and showcase their personalities and the things that are important to them.

The children helped decorate our classroom door, giving them the chance to put their own stamp on the space and make it feel truly theirs. The students also completed a Google Form, sharing the ways they enjoy learning as well as the subjects they like and find more challenging.

Here are some highlights from the week of learning as we begin each unit.

In English, the students began studying the modern novel Holes by Louis Sachar. They explored the front cover and opening chapter to make predictions about the story, and analysed the main character to build their first impressions.

In IMYC, we started our Brainwave unit. To launch the unit, students completed an Entry Point activity in which they designed their dream day, carefully considering how to balance everything important to them while taking into account their overall well-being. They then took part in a Knowledge Harvest, revisiting key vocabulary and ideas that they will be building on throughout the unit.

This week in Year 7 maths with Mr Green, we:

    • Completed Cambridge Insight Assessments in General Maths and Arithmetic
    • Started our first unit on sequences – the first unit test is on Monday, 8 September
    • Established our working routines.
    • Learned how AI can help us with our learning

Homework is sent home every Friday and is due the following Friday.

If you are interested in seeing what we have been studying, students have access to all the learning materials we cover in class through their school accounts.

If you have any questions about Year 7 maths, please contact Mr Green.

Our first week of maths has been a busy and exciting start! We spent time establishing our classroom routines, expectations, and ways of working together so that everyone feels confident and ready to learn. Students have already begun diving into our first units of study, where they are exploring important concepts, asking thoughtful questions, and practicing their problem-solving strategies. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and positive attitude students are bringing to their learning. As we move forward, we will continue to build on these strong foundations and develop both skills and confidence in maths.

    We are studying:

    • Year 8 – Ratio & scale
    • Year 9 –  Straight line graphs

    Homework

Homework was given on Monday this week and all students returned it on time. From next week homework will be sent on Fridays, to be completed by the following Friday.

That’s it for this week. I look forwad to seeing you all next week.

    Welcome Year 7,8,9

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the new school year in Year 7,8,9. I hope you all had a wonderful summer, filled with rest, fun, and time with family.

I am very excited to welcome your child into my class this year. Middle school is such an important stage of learning full of growth, independence, and new challenges and I’m looking forward to supporting each student as they develop both academically and personally.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s learning at any point, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. I look forward to working closely with you to ensure your child has a successful and enjoyable year.

My Class Information Meeting will be held on Wednesday 3rd September at 13:45 – 14:30. It would be great to see you all then and go through learning and expectations for the year.

For families who are new to our school, I’d like to briefly introduce myself.
