Weekly Update – Term 1 Week1

Happy Friday to you all!

We have had a very busy week here in Year 1/2. We have spent a lot of time learning our classroom routines, including Our Morning Routine, Our voice-o-meter, Tidying up, Well-being check-in and the calm corner. We also discussed personal space and explicitly taught what it is and what to do when someone invades our space.

Here is a link to the book I used which I think is wonderful. It would be great to watch together with your child.

We also started our “We all belong here” celebrations. Here is how it works:

I hope it brings each of your children some joy 🙂

We have not officially started our Maths Curriculum as I need to spend time teaching the children about our rotations, our maths programmes on the tablets and how to smoothly transition from each of our stations. This is a vital part of the year to set us up for a year of great learning!

In Literacy, we started our new unit “Lost and Found”. The Year 1 students got their first Literacy book and practised writing the date using a ruler to underline it. Their first objective is to combine words to make a sentence. We looked at a picture from the story and verbally made sentences. We then wrote our first sentences at the end of the week and I was very impressed with their effort. We are focusing on Capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. The homework is related to what we have completed in class. Year 2 students practised writing sentences too but theirs had to include adjectives to describe what they could see.

The Year 2 students are working very well independently and have been my little helpers this week. It is lovely to see them helped their younger classmates.

In IPC, we started our Brainwave Unit “The Brain” and have been learning about neurons, memory and what our brain controls. We had great fun “operating” on some brains that Professor Spark delivered to school ;).

I would like to remind parents that we have a student in the class who has a severe nut allergy. Therefore no nuts should be sent as a snack. I am sorry for the inconvenience if your child likes nuts but we are trying to keep it as safe as possible 🙂 Thank you for your understanding.

Today, Homework and Library books were sent home and should be returned in the yellow folder next Friday 🙂

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Take care,

Mrs. Sim
