Mrs. Sim – Weekly Update Term 1 Week 10

Hellooooooooo! Happy Halloween 🙂

What a great end to the week! The Halloween party was a great success and the children all had a fun time. The costumes were all amazing. They looked so good!

The excitement levels were definitely rising in the classroom as the party came closer! Let’s take a look at what we got up to this week 🙂

In Maths, we studied the following objectives. I am pleased with the progress the students are making, the growth mindset they so often show me  and their little faces filled with enthusiasm! <3

Year 1

2.12 – Subtraction – find a part
2.13 – Fact families – the eight facts
2.14 – Subtraction – take away/cross out (How many left?)

2.15 – Subtraction – take away (How many left?)

Year 2

2.5 – Add and subtract 1s
2.6 – Add by making 10
2.7 – Add three 1-digit numbers
2.8 – Add to the next 10
2.9 – Add across a 10

In Literacy, we have been exploring London through our character “Katie” in our new storybook “Katie in London”. Thank you to everyone who watched the little video, I could see the students had learned all the sights over the weekend and they were all eager to answer questions about them. I would love to take them all on a field trip to London hehe!

In lessons, we labelled the sights, wrote a postcard back to Katie and practised using adjectives to describe a picture of a busy street in London.

In IPC, we have come to the end of our unit “SuperHumans”. I would like to once again thank Nila (Naka’s mum) for a superb introduction to this unit. It was a fantastic unit and we have had a lot of fun learning about our amazing bodies, the senses and food groups. This week we looked at where our food comes from. We did a little sorting activity putting various foods into the correct categories. I gave the students a challenge to create a dish for a child their age. They had to include, carbohydrates, protein and vegetables. They did a great job of these and they turned out beautifully.

No Homework this week

I hope you all have an amazing mid term break. I have to admit, I am looking forward to some rest, relaxation and lots of sleep! Hehe!

Take care, be safe and have fun 🥰
