A warm welcome back and a very Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope 2025 is a wonderful year filled with love, laughter and happiness.
We have had a great first week back with lots of fun learning. I missed the students so much and it was great to be reunited. I think it is going to be a fantastic Term 2!
In Maths both Year groups started new units this week. Here are the objectives we covered:
Year 1
Spr.1.1 – Count within 20 |
Spr.1.2 – Understand 10 |
Spr.1.3 – Understand 11, 12 and 13 |
Spr.1.4 – Understand 14, 15 and 16 |
Year 2
Spr.1.1 – Count money – pence |
Spr.1.2 – Count money – pounds (notes and coins) |
Spr.1.3 – Count money – pounds and pence |
Spr.1.4 – Choose notes and coins |
We are learning money using the British Pound as we follow the British Curriculum. This unit is always a little bit difficult as the children are not familiar with the coins. I have sent home a little bag of coins and notes so that the students can use them to familiarize themselves and use them if they need to when completing the homework (Please return the coins on Monday if you have completed the Homework over the weekend-if you need them for longer, no problem).
In Literacy this week, we started our new storybook, ‘The Lion Inside’. We started off by predicting what the story will be about. The children had a little assessment to see what objectives they have remembered from Term 1. They had to look at pictures and label/write sentences/write a story about what might happen. We then looked at the cover of the book and created sentences about the Lion and the Mouse. We used adjectives to describe them and wrote about the large rock in the story.
It is a lovely story with important messages within. I think we will really enjoy this unit of work.
In IPC, we started the unit “Push me, Pull You” and oh what fun we have had! We have been exploring the forces ‘push and pull’ and carried out lots of fun hands-on activites. The students looked at how their bodies move and which force is used for certain activities. We took a walk around the school to observe other students working and tried running, rolling and jumping to see if we were pushing, pulling or both!
Today we carried out a little investigation into how we can change movement and the children loved the cars. We found that the higher the ramp the faster the car went and if we blocked the road, the car would divert!

P.E Footwear
I love all the childrens’ new winter boots but can I kindly ask that they bring trainers/sneakers for P.E. on Tuesday and Fridays. It is really hard for them to run in boots. If they want to bring them in a bag separately that is totally fine also. Thank you 🙂
That’s all for this week. Hope you all have a great weekend! Stay warm 🙂
Mrs. Sim
