Mr Dunn’s Class Update T3W7

Hello everyone!

We’ve had a busy and exciting week in class, full of new learning and exploration across our subjects!

Literacy

We began a new unit based on the beautifully illustrated book Zeraffa Giraffa by Dianne Hofmeyr. The children have enjoyed engaging with the text through image-based predictions and vocabulary building. They particularly enjoyed writing diary entries from the perspective of Atir, the boy tasked with escorting Zeraffa the giraffe to France as a royal gift. Their writing showed great empathy and imagination!

Maths

In Maths, we started our unit on money. The children explored pounds and pence, worked with decimals in the context of money, and practised converting between the two. To support their understanding, we used laminated play money as manipulatives. This hands-on approach helped them visualise and solve more challenging problems with greater confidence. It’s been a great way to make abstract concepts more concrete and relatable.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)
We wrapped up our previous unit, Our Life, by completing our Exit Point activity. The children added information to their model islands, showing what they learned throughout the unit. We then launched into our new topic, The Nature of Life. For our Entry Point, we headed out to the school garden to observe and identify various living things, sparking lots of curiosity and discussion.

On Friday, we kicked off our ABC Countdown to Summer with A for Art! The children created beautifully crafted egg baskets in preparation for E for Egg Day next week. We also had a fun team-building activity designing our team T-shirts for Sports Day. The creativity and teamwork on display were wonderful to see!

That’s all for the week have a great weekend.
