Hello everyone,
We’ve had a super productive week as the Year 3/4 class kicked off new units in each subject, completed mini-assessments, and continued to adapt to their new classroom environment and expectations. I have been impressed with the start each child has made.
In English, we began our unit based on Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman. The children were initially assessed on their writing skills, and by the end of the unit, they will produce a recount in the form of a letter. Throughout the week, we made predictions about the book, explored prepositions, and wrote detailed setting descriptions.
In Maths, we started a unit on place value, a fundamental concept that lays the groundwork for future learning. The children worked on understanding place values up to 1,000, identified the value of individual digits, represented numbers in various ways, and practiced partitioning numbers.
For IPC (International Primary Curriculum), we began each unit with an engaging entry point to excite the children about their upcoming learning. The students visited different classrooms and made observations about the types of learning they encountered. We then explored how children learn best and what strategies help them succeed before transitioning to the concept of teaching someone a new skill. The children carefully considered a skill they could teach and used their laptops to create a set of instructions.
It’s been an exciting start to our new units, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the children continue to grow and develop their skills!
That’s all for this week, have a great weekend everyone!
