History of Hyundai Foreign School

Sep 1982       Hyundai Foreign School (HFS) opened in the Foreigners’ Compound as Primary School comprised of FS2 and Years 1 through 6 with Mr. Clive Lewis appointed as the first Principal. HFS was registered as a “Foreign School” in accordance with the Immigration Act.

Sep 1988       Miss Audrey Winter was appointed as the 2nd Principal

Sep 1989       Mr. Michael Owens was appointed as the 3rd Principal

Sep 1992       Mr. Frank Phillips was appointed as the 4th Principal

Sep 1996       Mr. Hugh Dyson was appointed as the 5th Principal

Sep 2003       HFS added FS 1 to the school

Sep 2005       HFS added Y7-9 to the school

Apr 2008        HFS obtained an operating license from the Korean Ministry of Education in accordance with the Primary and Middle School Act

Sep 2008       HFS opened the Early Years Center

May 2011       HFS obtained accreditation to the Council of International Schools (CIS)

Aug 2012       Mr. Geoffrey Livingstone was appointed as the 6th Principal

Jan 2016        Mr. Colin Jones was appointed as the Acting Principal

May 2016       HFS obtained re-accreditation to CIS

Sep 2016       Miss Josie Strang was appointed as the Acting Principal

Dec 2016       Mr. Anthony Blacklock was appointed as the 7th Principal

Oct 2017        Mr. Peter McLeod was appointed as the 8th Principal

Aug 2018       HFS was relocated to the Hanmaeum Center

Aug 2018       Mr. Scott Kearney was appointed as the School Coordinator

May 2019       HFS received the “Continuance within the Accreditation Cycle” from CIS after the New Programme/Campus Visit

Sep 2019       Mr. Scott Kearney was appointed as the Acting Principal

Nov 2020       Mr. Daniel Green was appointed as the 9th Principal

Sep 2022 HFS Celebrated its 40th Anniversary

Jan 2023        HFS obtained re-accreditation to CIS

Dec 2023       HFS was relocated to the current site in the Ulsan College campus
