Y5-6 Art Class Update T2-W2

The New Year marks the beginning of a fresh start. In Korea, the first day of the lunar calendar is called Seollal, a special day when families come together, spend quality time, and exchange kind words to welcome the new year.

A Bokjumeoni is a traditional pouch used by our ancestors to wish for good fortune and blessings. The word “Bok” (福) signifies happiness and luck. It was believed that placing money or wishes inside the pouch would bring prosperity and good fortune. Lucky pouches symbolize the hope for a year filled with positivity and blessings.

The students learned about the symbolic meanings of peony flowers in Korean folk art, such as wealth, honor, and happiness, and incorporated these designs into their lucky pouches. They enjoyed painting their pouches with vibrant colors, resulting in beautiful and cheerful creations.
