Mrs. Sim – Weekly Update Term 1 Week 2

Dear parents,

It was so nice to see you all at the Curriculum Meeting on Monday. Thank you all for coming. I hope you found it informative and enjoyed getting to know everyone. I loved reading your notes about your child and I found them very helpful.

The class has done much better this week following routines and getting used to their new class. Year 1 students may be extra tired as it is a big transition moving up to Year 1. This usually improves after the Chuseok Break as they adjust to their new environment and curriculum.

In Maths this week, we officially started the curriculum working out way through out first 3 objectives! They did very well transitioning from Tuff Trays-Technology-”Meet with Mrs.Sim. We are ready to really get going next week and I have lots of fun activities planned.

Year 1 looked at  sorting objects, counting objects, and counting objects from larger groups.

Year 2 reviewed numbers to 20, practiced counting to 100 making groups of 10, and learned how to recognise tens and ones using various methods and manipulatives.

In Literacy, we started our Phonics Rotations and the students have been adjusting to their groups and reviewing lots of sounds that they had forgotten over the summer ;). The small speed sound books/ Storybooks were not sent home for Year 1 students as we spent the week reviewing sounds. Next week we will start the story books.

In Literacy lessons we read more of our StoryBook “Lost and Found” and spent time making labels for some of the animals that were lost! We also made a fact file for Pandas and Dolphins to help the man in the Lost and Found find the animals’ parents. 🙂

Year 1 learned the importance of using Capital letters for names of People and Year 2 used expanded noun phrases to describe their animals.

In IPC, we had A LOT of fun this week! Professor Spark asked us to find out where we can get knowledge from so we went on a scavenger hunt to find all the objects and people that may be able to help us learn!

We also got asked by Professor Spark to make him a balanced meal to help keep his brain healthy! We learned that our brains need: exercise, water, balanced meals and lots of sleep!

Here they are working hard to make a healthy balanced meal!

Lastly, we have nearly finished our “We all belong here” celebrations with just two more students to be celebrated! It really has made the children feel special and learn how important kind words are to people.

That’s all for this week!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and have something fun planned.

Mrs. Sim 🥰
