Dear Parents,
It has been a funny little week with having Tuesday and Thursday off this week but we still had lots of fun learning. I am also loving the cooler weather! Let’s have a look at what we have got up to this week 🙂
In Maths, we covered the following objectives:
Year 1
2.2- Part-whole model |
2.3 – Write number sentences |
Year 1 started their new unit “Addition and Subraction”. This week we looked at how 2 parts are equal to a whole. We used the Part-whole model to help us create number sentences.
Year 2
1.15 – Count in 2s, 5s and 10s |
1.16 – Count in 3s |
Year 2 students practised counting in 2s,5s and 10s. Counting forward was okay but counting backwards was a lot more difficult. We also practised counting forward and backwards in 3s and this was very challenging for most of the children. The homework is related to these objectives and it would be great if you could practise with your child. Especially counting back in 3’s. 👍
In Literacy, we have began planning for our very own stories. We created a new character for our story, drew a picture of it and made a little fact file. The Year 1 students did well writing adjectives to describe their animals independently while the Year 2 students used the internet to research more about their chosen animal. We looked at what makes a good story and decided that fun characters are a must (Along with sequenced sentences, a beginning, middle and end and colourful pictures ;)). Next week we will be looking at how we can change the “Lost and Found” story by changing the penguin to our own character. The unit will finish with the children attempting to create their own story independently. 🙂
In IPC, we learned how our ears and brain work together to allow us to hear. We enjoyed listening to a variety of instruments and I showed off my harmonica playing skills to the students. Hehe! We looked at how we need to hit some instruments and blow into others. Today we finished of having lots of fun looking at how our hands feel things. We went on a little walk and tested to see which part of our body is the most sensitive to touch. We tested by touching with our hands, fingers, elbow and feet (for some).
Phonics Books
Thank you to everyone who returned the phonics books. It is much appreciated. I am still missing a few so please do return them as soon as possible as other groups also use them. Thanking you in advance.
I hope you all have a great weekend and I shall see you all on Monday 🙂
