Mrs. Sim – Weekly Update Term 1 Week 6

Hello and Happy Friday to you all! I hope you have all had a great week!

Let’s take a look at what we have been learning this week!

In Maths, we have been getting really great at transitioning from our stations and making good progress. Year 1 sat their end of Unit Assessments and all did very well yesterday.

This week we completed the following objectives:

Year 1

1.13 – Compare numbers
1.14 – Order objects and numbers
1.15 – The number line
Assessment
2.1 – Introduce parts and wholes

Year 2

1.12 – Compare objects
1.13 – Compare numbers
1.14 – Order objects and numbers

I will be sending home the Year 1’s unit workbook next week as we started our new unit ‘Addition and Subtraction’ today.

In Literacy, we finished reading our story “Lost and Found’. The Year 1 students enjoyed retelling the story and making sentences to match pictures. They are becoming more confident in using capital letters and full stops. They also enjoyed making sentences using pictures and speech bubbles for the characters.

Year 2 students worked on writing short paragraphs to retell the story. We looked at using adjectives in our sentences and tried to include the feelings of the characters too.

In Phonics, we have been very busy as always 🙂 Learning new sounds, reading new words and practising fluency. I will be reassessing the students around week 9 or 10 to ensure they are always in the correct group for their level.

In IPC, we have had a lot of fun. We finished our beautiful sensory boards. Learned all about how the eye sees, by roleplaying the various steps, ordering pictures and making lovely information posters. We also got out the flashlights and did a little experiment to see how the pupil changes size. We made diagrams of our eye and labelled the different parts.

We finished up today with a little goodbye party for Brendan. His parents brought in some treats for his friends to share.

Please remember that next week is a 3 day week with Tuesday the 1st and Thursday the 3rd being national holidays. Hope you all have a nice rest together 🙂

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday!

Enjoy our week in pictures 🙂
