Hello! What a wonderful and exciting week we had. Just a little housekeeping before we begin our update.
Library
We have library every Friday with Ms. Yuli. Please remember to bring your library folder on Fridays. If you have any books from last year, please remember to send those in. If you’ve lost your library folder, let me know and we’ll get you a new one. Thanks!
PE
Just a reminder that PE is every Monday and students should come dressed in sports clothes and sports shoes.
Classroom Temperature
Different people find different temperatures of the room comfortable. I try to keep an average temperature but some students are either hot or cold. I would suggest students dress in summer clothes but bring a cardigan or hoodie to keep in their locker in case the room feels chilly to them.
Curriculum Meeting
Thank you to those parents who were able to join us on Tuesday. It was great getting to discuss our curriculum for the year with you. If you missed the meeting, the slides are available on the Class Page under the “Curriculum Overview” link.
Homework
Homework went home in backpacks this week.. It can come back on Friday with your library folder.
If you made a video, please email it to mariemcclellan@hyundaiforeignschool.com
Ok, now that that’s out of the way, let’s recap the week!
In IEYC we continued learning about ourselves and each other. We learned about our bodies, and we practised identifying body parts with games such as a freeze dance game that when the music stopped, we had to put a certain body part on the floor. We built a playdough person by rolling a die with different body parts on it and building the part we rolled. We paid special attention to our hands and feet by playing “keep up” with a balloon. That was great fun. We identified our faces by putting together puzzles Ms. M made with our faces and we painted self-portraits.
In Phonics we started with the basics. Learning the sounds of M, A, S, T, D and practising how to write those letters in lowercase.
In Literacy we got ready to learn all about The Gingerbread Man by making cookies of our own! We made the dough, rolled it out, and cut it, and after Ms. M baked the cookies, we decorated them. But Literacy wasn’t just baking! We did read the gingerbread book. We also had a great time decorating our Writing Books to use. (Students also wanted a writing book to take home, so I made them one with a cover of their choosing. Those books are for home and do not need to come back to school).
In Maths we learned about sets and after watching the story Seaweed Soup we made place settings and had a whole meal for our animals! We practised sets by making sure everyone had the right table setting. WE also worked on sorting and will be continuing to sort for some time. We sorted buttons, shells, rocks, and toy animals!
In Digital Literacy we practised plugging and unplugging our tablets by ourselves without damaging the cord so that we’ll eventually be able to independently get our technology from the tablet cart.
Since there was no assembly this week we went around the school and learned how many languages are spoken in our school. It’s truly a lot. We had fun listening to the older students count to 10 for us in 17 different languages!
That’s it for this week!
