Literacy

This week in literacy, we finished reading our main focus text. The students explored Malala’s perspective by writing diary entries about the moment she found a note on her school gates warning girls not to attend school anymore. They focused on expressing her thoughts and emotions, considering how she might have felt in that situation. As part of their writing, they practiced using parentheses to add extra information and detail. We also discussed the importance of diary writing as a way to reflect on personal experiences. Later in the week, the students practiced creative writing using their laptops. This activity helped them develop their ideas, improve their typing skills, and prepare for next week, when they will begin writing their own blogs.

IPC

Exit point (Fascinating Forces) – Students were given the challenge of creating informative posters explaining the experiments we conducted and the science behind them. Their work is now proudly displayed outside the classroom for the whole school to see.

Entry point – The children watched a clip from the famous movie Frankenstein and discussed the electricity that brought the monster to life. They then researched various important modern machines, including MRI machines for medical imaging, defibrillators for restarting the heart, and internet routers for enabling digital communication.

Knowledge Harvest – The children completed a hands-on sorting activity in which they were given a variety of images depicting electrical appliances. They worked to categorize each appliance into one of four groups based on the type of energy it produces: movement, sound, light, or heat, helping them understand the different functions of everyday electrical devices.

Science Task 1 – The children discussed the important pioneers of electrical discovery, including Alessandro Volta, Michael Faraday, and Benjamin Franklin, learning about their key contributions to the development of electricity. They also had a brief overview of what a battery is, how it stores and releases energy, and explored its various uses in powering devices like toys, phones, and remote controls.
