Hyundai Cultural Exchange Programme

The first session of our cultural exchange programme is this Saturday 21st September at 10am at HFS. We will be welcoming 20 students from local Korean schools to meet and work with our students on a range of team building and leadership activities. 

Students in Mrs Leah’s class and Ms. Temple’s class have already signed up for this programme but please confirm your attendance on Saturday using this form.

Remember, students are expected to try to attend all sessions.

  • Sunday 6th October – Attending Ulsan HD FC vs Gimcheon Sangmu FC
  • Saturday 2nd November – Ulsan Grand Park Adventure Day or Beach Clean
  • Saturday 7th December  – Year-end Talent Show and Party

PTA Movie Night

The PTA Movie Night is on Thursday 19th September. Students attending will stay after school to attend this event. Please remember that the sleepover option has been removed because the event has moved to a school night. All students will need to be collected from school at 8pm.

SKAIS Primary School Football

The SKAIS Primary School Football Tournament is on Saturday, September 28th at International School of Busan. Our current plan is to travel to the event by school bus and return on the subway. A return school bus is not available because the event will finish late enough to prevent us from arriving back in Ulsan within the bus drivers’ working hours. If enough parents wish to join us at this event, we could travel by car. Please let Mr. Green know if you are intending to drive to this event and would be willing to take some students. Further details will follow when the schedule for this event has been released and travel arrangements have been confirmed.

Dongrami Theater

Dongrami Theater is looking for actors.

COVID Precautions

COVID-19 remains a concern. The following are the school’s guidelines to help ensure that everyone can stay safe and healthy:

  • Parents should make sure that their child’s temperature is below 37.5°, with no symptoms such as coughing or diarrhoea before accompanying him/her to the bus stops or driving him/her to school.
  • Students who display symptoms are recommended to stay at home until they get well enough to return to school.
  • Students or staff who test positive for Covid-19 must stay at home until they recover
  • Parents whose child tests positive for Covid-19 must inform the school.
  • Students who show suspected Covid-19 symptoms such as high fever and cough are recommended to be picked up and taken to the hospital by their parents.
  • Students or staff who cough should wear masks.
  • Students are recommended to wash their hands often and thoroughly.
  • Classrooms will be ventilated regularly.

Website and Email Issues

We have been experiencing some problems with the hosting service for the school website. We apologise for any inconvenience as we work to resolve this issue.

We had some issues with school email on Thursday, but they have been resolved and emails are now being sent and received. There is a possibility that an email sent to school last Thursday may not have been received. If you have not received a response to an email sent last week, please try sending again or contacting the Admin Office by phone.

We are hoping that all website and email issues will be resolved by early next week.

Chuseok Hanbok

On Thursday, we will be celebrating Chuseok.

Students are invited to come to school dressed in either Korean Hanbok or their national dress. This is optional and there is no need to go out and buy anything.

We will post some great pictures of everyone!

Chuseok Holiday

Please remember that school will be closed from Monday to Wednesday next week (Sept 16th-18th) for the Chuseok Holiday. We hope everyone has a wonderful break.

K-pop Dance

We now have enough students and K-pop dance after school activity will go ahead on Tuesday.

PTA Movie Night

The PTA movie night has been moved to Thursday, 19th September. This is a school night, so the sleepover option has been removed. We will try to organise another sleepover soon!

You can sign-up for the movie night or change your options using this form. You can also contact the PTA for more information or clarification.

Dongrami Theater

HFS has a long standing relationship with Dongrami Theater, with many of our students having enjoyed taking part in this activity. Last Friday Dongrami visited school and talked to the students in assembly. They are looking for actors.

Website and Newsletter Issues

We are experiencing some problems with the hosting service for the school website. We apologize for any inconvenience as we work to resolve this issue. Newsletters and Class Updates are currently being sent directly by Mr Green. If you need any information that is normally accessed from the website, please contact the Admin Office. School email addresses are not affected.

After School Activities

Please take a moment to check that students have been registered in the correct after school activities. If there are any issues, please contact the Admin Office as soon as possible.

Ice Hockey Club

In case there is any confusion, the price for Ice Hockey Club is 250,000 per month.

Kpop Dance

This activity needs a few more students to sign up if it is going to run. Kpop Dance is now available to students in Mrs Leah’s class. If not enough students join, this activity will be canceled. Parents will be informed whether the activity is going ahead by Monday evening.

Table Tennis

There is space available in the table tennis after school activity.  Table tennis will definitely go ahead as planned.

PTA Movie Night and Sleepover

The PTA are organising a movie night and sleepover on Friday 20th September

After school until 8pm kids can stay to play and watch a movie, and we will serve dinner. After 8pm pickup, older kids can spend the night, to be picked up at 8am the following morning by parents. PTA will provide dinner (spaghetti or Mac-n-cheese, french fries, fruit, and drinks), snacks (popcorn/ice pops) and a small breakfast (bread/toast with butter and jam, fruit and milk, and boiled eggs). 

The sleepover option is available to students in Mrs Leah’s, Ms Temple’s classes only.

Costs are as follows: 

  • Movie and Sleepover and Meals: 40,000 won per child 
  • Movie and Sleepover no Meals 30,000 won per child
  • Movie and Dinner: 25,000won per child
  • Movie no Dinner: 20,000 won per child 

All money raised will go to fund PTA events such as Halloween and Christmas parties.

Curriculum Orientation Meetings

All parents are invited to Curriculum Orientation Meetings which will be led by each class teacher. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to find out more about the curriculum at HFS and how learning happens in each class. Parents are encouraged to attend and get involved in their child’s learning. We look forward to seeing you next week.

As always, we ask that students and parents think carefully before signing up for an activity. We only want students who are genuinely interested in taking part in an activity to make sure it is a good experience for all students and the teachers leading the activity.

Ice Hockey Club

A number of students from HFS are involved in an ice hockey club that meets at the Ulsan College Ice Rink. Sessions are available on Wednesdays (3.30–4.30pm) and Fridays at 7.00pm.

If you are interested in joining the ice hockey team, please sign up for the after-school activity on Wednesdays, or the school can put you in contact with the ice hockey coaches for more information. Sessions cost 250,000 won per month, and equipment is provided free of charge.

Bus Schedule Change

Please note that the Bus Schedule for Ms Jiyu’s bus in the morning has changed. Please be aware of the new times. Please also be aware that the schedule for the bus after school will change when activities start in Week 3.

The South Korea Association of International Schools (SKAIS) is a group of international schools in our area that organises a program of inter-school sports and cultural activities.

HFS tries to be involved with as many SKAIS events as possible.

SKAIS events in 2024 that HFS will be attending:

  • Cross Country – Tuesday 5th November – @DIS – W11
  • Middle School Football 7-a-sides – Tuesday 12th November – ISB – W12

Hyundai Cultural Exchange Programme

HD Hyundai is sponsoring a cultural exchange programme for our students. This is an opportunity for our students to make friends with a specially selected group of Korean students and take part in a range of fun activities together. This is also a great way for our students to develop confidence, leadership, and an international mindset.

Bus Behaviour Contracts

All students taking the bus will have received an envelope containing a letter explaining the bus safety rules. We ask that parents and students take the time to read the safety rules, sign the form, and return it to school.

Library Books

A number of students still have library books outstanding from last year. If you have any HFS library books at home, please return them to school. Each class has the opportunity to borrow books from the library once a week.

You should be receiving School Newsletters and Class Updates by email. If you are having trouble receiving emails, please contact the Admin Office. Class Updates are usually published every Friday and School Newsletters are published over the weekend. Newsletters and Updates are always available on the school website.

Contact Details

Please be sure to inform the Admin Office if any contact details have changed. Have any addresses, phne numbers or email addresses changed. It is important that we have up-to-date information.

Curriculum Information Sessions

You should receive an invitation to a Curriculum Information Session from your child’s teacher. These meetings are an excellent opportunity for parents to meet the teacher and learn about the curriculum at HFS and the routines for each class.

PTA Coffee Morning

Wednesday 21st August – 11am

All parents who are interested in being involved with the Parent-Teacher Association are invited to a coffee morning on Wednesday 21st August at 11am.

The PTA is for parents, teachers, students, and administration to work together to support the school through social events, fundraising, and volunteer opportunities, with the goal of enhancing the cultural, social, and educational life of the school, benefiting the children, and contributing to the lives of all members of the school community.

Events planned for term 1 will include:

  • Orhanage Christmas Party – Saturday 14th December
