Lunar New Year Celebrations

HFS will celebrate Lunar New Year on Wednesday 7th February – Week 5.

Students (and parents) are invited to come to school wearing Hanbok, or traditional clothes from a home country.

There will be an event in the Hall and Lobby from 1.30 p.m. featuring:

  • Traditional Korean games
  • A fashion show
  • Singing
  • A group art project

Parents are invited to attend and join in the fun.

Dragon Scales

As part of our Lunar New Year celebrations, we will be decorating a giant blue dragon with wishes for the new year. Each student should have received a dragon scale to decorate with a wish and their creativity.

Here is an example made by Miss Yuli.

Scales should be returned to school by Wednesday 6th February (next week)

Lunar New Year Holiday

Please remember that school will be closed for the Lunar New Year holiday on Friday 9th February and Monday 12th February.

Ski Trip

Last week, a group of adventurous HFS students spent three days skiing at Muju Resort. The students showed tremendous resistance, confidence, and responsibility in learning a new skill while also learning to look after themselves away from home. A great trip!

Check out from great photographs from the trip

Thank you to Dana’s dad, Margo and Nikolay’s mum and Grace’s mum for joining us on this trip and being so helpful.

New School Opening Celebration

If you would like to attend this event, please register using this form. We have lots of people coming, and we need to plan accordingly. If you do not register and attend on the day, you will be making things very difficult for us to organise. This is also not an event that would suit babies and small children.

Anyone who would like to help sort, label, and categorise some new library books would be very welcome. Contact Mr. Green for more information.

A big thank you to Alex’s mum, Alec and Ethan’s mum and Aubrey and Ella’s mum who have been helping so far.

HFS Newsletter – Term 2 – Week 3

We are three weeks into life at our new school, and we are really starting to feel at home. The students are loving all the extra space, and our teachers are making sure we use our facilities to their full advantage. It was great to see after-school activities up and running this week, and school was full of fun and laughter.

Ski Trip

Next week, some students in Mr. Morgan’s and Mrs. Leah’s classes will go on an exciting skiing trip. We will be away from Monday to Wednesday at Muju Ski Resort with our friends from Atherton International School. Mr. Green and Mr. Morgan will be on the trip, with Mrs. Leah staying at school to look after the remaining students from those classes.

HFS Newsletter – Term 1 – Week 14

The last week of term is upon us, and HFS is full of Christmas excitement! 4 more days at the Hanmaeum Center before we leave for good and set up home at our new school site. There is lots going on this week and at the start of Term 2, so read carefully.

Last Day of Term 1

Please remember that the last day of Term 1 for students will be Thursday, December 14th.

Staff will spend Friday packing up the school, ready to move to the new school site.

A Message From the PTA

Hello Parents!

This Friday, students will bring home a bag of craft supplies to make a DIY Christmas ornament over the weekend! Students can use any materials from home as well. Please send the ornaments back to school on Monday so we can hang them on the Christmas trees around the school.

Tuesday at 1:45pm PTA will host a small Christmas celebration for the children. There will be refreshments, a hot cocoa bar, crafts, a movie, and Santa! We would love for parents to join us for the celebration! The DIY ornaments made by the children will be for sale for 2,000 won each. Please send your child with small bills/change to purchase an ornament made by friends (parents are welcome to purchase as well!)

There are also many educational texts still available in the resource room that are free for the taking. Please come have a look!

Merry Christmas from your HFS PTA!

Open Day at New School Site

As you are no doubt aware, the school will be relocating to our new site during the winter holidays. Renovation work is on track, and the timeline for ordering new furniture and resources has now begun. We are very excited about the move to the new school site and the wonderful educational environment we are creating.

To ease the transition, we would like to invite all parents and students to an Open Day at the new school site on Friday, January 5th, at 2.30 p.m. This will be an opportunity for parents to see our new facilities and for students to become familiar with their new school before school starts.

We will be holding a ceremony in February to officially mark the opening of the new school.

Mid-Year Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences

Mid-Year Reports will be published on Friday, February 16th February and Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held the following week. Remember, if you would like to meet a teacher before then, we are always happy to arrange something.

Keep Everyone Safe

We’ve had a few cases of influenza and COVID-19 recently. If your child feels unwell with symptoms, please keep them home to rest. This helps keep everyone safe. If your child is sick, let us know they’re staying home. Your cooperation is appreciated.

After-School Activities in Term 2

Sign-up for after-school activities in Term 2 will be published in Week 1, and clubs will start in Week 2.

If you are interested in running an after-school activity or know someone who is, please contact Mr. Green for a consultation. We are always keen to broaden the range of activities available by partnering with appropriate external groups. External groups can charge for the activities they run, and the school does not charge any rent for the use of our facilities.

We would love to find:

  • a Teakwondo teacher
  • Music teachers for different instruments
  • A parent volunteer to run a special environmental project
  • Leaders for any other activity that would enhance the life of our school

HFS Newsletter – Term 1 – Week 13
