Ms Temple’s Weekly Update – Term 3 Week 1

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a much deserved rest over the spring break. It has been so lovely seeing the students’ return to school well rested and ready to learn. They have settled back into their routines nicely and have been very welcoming to our new student, who has come over from Japan!

Maths:

Year 1 – This week Year 1 have started a new unit on ‘Multiplication and Division’. They have been practising counting in 2s, 10s and 5s. I’m so impressed with how quickly they were able to remember these number sequences. They have also looked at equal groups and unequal groups and how they can be added together, which will help them with multiplication in the future.

Year 2 – This week Year 2 have completed their unit on ‘Measuring’. They have reviewed what they learned in Term 2 and they have looked at measuring temperature using degrees Celsius.

English:

This week we started our new unit, ‘Rhyme Time’, where students have been exploring rhyming poems about the five senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. The students have been looking closely at verbs we can use in a rhyming poem and which words we can actually use to make a successful rhyme. We asked the question, “Do words have to have the same spelling to rhyme?”…the answer is no, but they do have to have the same ending sound.

IPC:

This week we started our exciting new unit, ‘The Earth: Our home’. In this unit the students will learn all about our planet and why it is so important that we look after it. We have already explored how the earth contains different habitats and we have looked at different ways to categorise the things that live there: Animal, Vegetable (Plant) and Mineral. Today was a very exciting day as the whole class planted their own mini-sunflower seeds! We can’t wait to watch them grow!

A gentle reminder that World Book Day is on Tuesday (23rd April), so the students can dress up as a character from their favourite book. If your child has participated in the read-a-thon, please put their completed sponsorship forms in their bags ready for them to bring in on Tuesday.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Ms. Temple 🙂
